How To Apply Henna Tattoos

Henna tattoos can be easy for everyone with Mihenna! We’ve updated the henna application process to be as straightforward as possible so that you can do it yourself and focus on having fun and looking great! To follow the steps below, you'll need either one of our henna tattoo kits, or you can find a stencil, a henna cone, and a vial of coconut oil separately in the Essentials collection.

Step 1: Cut the sticker stencil to the desired size. Peel off the backing and press firmly to apply it to your skin.
Pro Tip: Remix the henna design by cutting apart and resticking parts of the stencil however you want! Let your imagination run wild!

Step 1: Peel backing and press to henna stencil to skin

Step 2: Remove the needle tip from the cone (keep track of your needle!). Fill in the stencil with a layer of Mihenna's all-natural henna paste.
Pro Tip: Use the provided spatula to spread the paste evenly for a consistent color.

Step 2: Fill in stencil with henna paste

Step 3: Keep the tattooed area still for at least 20 minutes as the paste dries. Once the henna has reached a crackly state, you can move freely. Leave on for a minimum of 2 hours for a rich, brown color.
Pro Tip: For a darker color, you can leave the paste on for up to 8 hours. Wrap the area in cling wrap to keep it from rubbing off.

Step 3: Allow henna to dry for 2 hours minimum

Step 4: When ready, peel off the sticker and throw it away. Use coconut oil and a paper towel to remove excess paste.
Pro Tip: Reinsert the needle and store your henna cone in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Step 4: Remove dried henna paste with coconut oil

Step 5: Keep using the coconut oil as a moisturizer to extend the life of your henna design. Protect your fresh tattoo from water for the first few hours.
Pro Tip: Areas with thicker skin (palms and feet) will maintain the color for longer, while thinner skin (arms, legs, stomach, and back) will fade more quickly.

Step 5: Continue moisturizing henna tattoo with coconut oil

Your henna tattoo will continue to darken over the next 24 hours and can last up to two weeks with proper care. For best results, avoid getting the area wet for the first few hours after applying your henna paste, and afterward, keep your design moisturized and avoid exfoliating it. With these simple steps, you’ll be showing off your goddess style for days!
